Appalachian Phase II Damper Assembly – Short Catalytic Combustors with Notch | Gemini GXL, 4N1 XL & 4N1 XLII Trailmaster

Restore the proper operation of your Appalachian catalytic wood stove with this Appalachian Phase II Replacement Damper Assembly for Short Catalytic Combustors with Notch. Designed for select Appalachian wood-burning stoves manufactured after 1989, this replacement assembly includes the main damper components and installation hardware needed to replace a worn, damaged, or malfunctioning damper assembly.

This Phase II damper assembly is designed for Appalachian stoves that use two short catalytic combustors measuring 2-1/2" x 5-9/16" x 3" with a notch. The assembly accommodates two catalytic combustors of this configuration, which are sold separately.

The replacement assembly includes the belly weldment, impingement plate, sliding damper plate, damper rod with spring, installation hardware, and a catalyst sealing blanket. This provides a convenient solution for repairing the damper mechanism on compatible Appalachian catalytic wood stoves.

Important Model Compatibility Note:
This damper assembly is specifically designed for Appalachian Phase II wood stoves using the short catalytic combustor configuration with a notch.

Appalachian manufactured different damper and catalytic combustor configurations over the years. Not all Appalachian stoves use the same damper assembly.

Before ordering, verify your stove model, manufacturing year, existing damper configuration, and catalytic combustor dimensions. Your stove must use the applicable short notched catalytic combustors measuring 2-1/2" x 5-9/16" x 3".

Required Catalytic Combustors – Sold Separately:
This damper assembly is designed to accommodate two short notched catalytic combustors, each measuring approximately 2-1/2" x 5-9/16" x 3".

The catalytic combustors are NOT included with this damper assembly and must be purchased separately if replacement is needed.

Replacement Catalyst Reference:
• SV3450 – Appalachian Catalytic Combustor, 2-1/2" x 5-9/16" x 3" with Notch
• Quantity Required: 2

Interam Catalyst Wrap Gaskets – Sold Separately:
The Interam wrap gasket material used around the catalytic combustors is not included with this assembly.

Replacement Gasket Reference:
• SV3522 – Interam Catalyst Wrap Gasket, 1/16" x 3", sold by the foot

Please note that the catalyst sealing blanket included with the damper assembly is not the same as the separately sold Interam wrap gasket material.

What Does the Phase II Damper Assembly Do?
The damper assembly is an important component of the catalytic combustion system in compatible Appalachian wood stoves. It operates as part of the stove's designed exhaust-gas routing system, allowing the appliance to use the appropriate operating path during startup, reloading, and catalytic operation.

A properly functioning damper mechanism is important for operating the stove according to the manufacturer's instructions and directing exhaust gases through the catalytic system when required.

Common Signs Your Damper Assembly May Need Replacement:
• Damper plate is warped, cracked, or damaged
• Damper rod is bent, seized, or difficult to operate
• Damper does not open or close properly
• Damper components have deteriorated from prolonged heat exposure
• Damper assembly no longer operates as intended
• Existing mounting or latching components are damaged
• Internal damper components require extensive repair or replacement

Installation Recommendations:
• Allow the wood stove to cool completely before beginning service
• Remove ashes and debris as necessary to safely access the damper assembly
• Carefully document the original damper assembly position and hardware arrangement before removal
• Inspect the existing mounting brackets and surrounding stove components for damage
• Verify the replacement assembly matches the original short-catalyst Phase II configuration
• Install the belly weldment, impingement plate, sliding damper plate, and damper rod according to the manufacturer's instructions
• Install the supplied latching bolts, metal shims, and tension pins in their proper locations
• Install the catalyst sealing blanket as specified for the assembly
• Install the required catalytic combustors and separate Interam wrap gasket material according to the applicable instructions
• Check damper operation and proper engagement before returning the stove to service

Important Installation Note:
The mounting plate brackets are NOT included with this assembly. Inspect your existing brackets before ordering and verify they are suitable for reuse.

Because this component is part of the stove's combustion and exhaust system, proper installation is essential. Professional installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with catalytic wood stove service.

Important Safety Note:
Do not operate the stove with a damaged, improperly installed, or malfunctioning damper assembly. Follow the Appalachian stove manufacturer's operating and service instructions when replacing internal catalytic combustion components.

Why Choose This Appalachian Phase II Damper Assembly?
This replacement assembly provides the major damper components and installation hardware needed for compatible Appalachian wood stoves using the Phase II short notched catalytic combustor configuration.

With the belly weldment, impingement plate, sliding damper plate, new damper rod and spring, installation hardware, and catalyst sealing blanket supplied together, the assembly offers a practical alternative to sourcing individual damper components separately.

Restore the proper operation of your compatible Appalachian catalytic wood stove with the Appalachian Phase II Damper Assembly – Short Cats with Notch.
